The faculty members of Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School bring a wealth of knowledge and skill that enriches the school community. Among them are a mathematician who started a crew team, a toxicologist, a world-class duathlon competitor, a former commanding officer of a U.S. Navy ship, and a former education director at the MacArthur Memorial. Faculty members have master’s degrees in fields from educational leadership to entomology, from pastoral ministry to library science, and from exercise science to English as a second language. Most have traveled widely and all have broad experience. Many of our teachers have dedicated years of service to our school, resulting in a stable learning environment and a real sense of family and community. Above all, they are committed to excellence in education -- and to their students.
Our teachers do not simply provide superior instruction; they lead, inspire, and excite. They have been chosen for their expertise in their academic area, but also because of their passion for the job and their ability to relate to students in a loving, supportive manner. Many of our teachers have years of experience in business, government or the military and are teaching because of their love of learning and love for our students. Our teachers are available and welcome the opportunity to help students. They pride themselves in keeping in touch with parents and are adept at using a variety of channels of communication, exploiting the latest technologies. Our teaching approach ensures that we know each student’s interests and abilities. Students flourish here and leave prepared for college and life, and our teachers celebrate their success.
Our teachers are provided with the latest technological tools to enhance their teaching. All classrooms are equipped with state of the art resources while multiple computer labs, including a cutting edge graphics lab, enhance learning. The building is equipped with a wireless network, and our science teachers have an advanced set of Vernier probe-ware computer interfaced sensors available to them. Our classrooms look traditional, warm and welcoming, but are technologically advanced and provide every teacher with the tools needed to teach effectively.
Our teachers are fully committed to the mission statement of the school. They provide an excellent college preparatory education, preparing every student for success beyond high school while remaining committed to our Catholic identity rooted in service and love. Our teachers provide living role models of caring that show our students, by example, that we are truly responsible for the well being of our neighbors, whether in Virginia or in the hills of Haiti.
Finally, our students come back to visit their teachers often. And some even come back to join the faculty.
