The Hawaii Air National Guard conducted a virtual promotion ceremony for Colonel Thomas J. James '82 who was promoted from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier General on Dec. 23, 2020. With the iconic Diamond Head crater as the backdrop of the Hawaii Air National Guard headquarters, participants of the indoor ceremony were socially distanced, masked up and limited to only 4 family members. It was held indoors to provide the opportunity to broadcast the ceremony via Facebook Live to the numerous family members, peers and friends who, under normal circumstances, would have been in attendance. All COVID restrictions were followed to ensure a safe ceremony. The event kicked off at 10 AM Hawaii Standard Time. Hawaii's Governor The Honorable David Ige, delivered welcome remarks virtually from the State Capitol and then gave the command to "publish the orders."
