Taryn Schrader '09
Taryn Schrader attended Bishop Sullivan CHS from 2005-2009. She was a varsity cross-country runner for four years under coach Marty Campbell, was a member of the varsity swim team for four years for coach Mac Walston, played varsity soccer for three years under Ed Mazzanti, and ran spring track for two years for coaches Ed Keyes and Rick Cox.
As a freshman, Taryn started a string of eight consecutive years of Tidewater Conference cross-country champions from Bishop Sullivan CHS; Taryn took four consecutive trophies and her sister, Colleen, followed with three championships. Hannah Frazier was the 2014 winner. From her sophomore to senior years Taryn was the State Catholic cross-country individual champion, and for all 4 years finished in the top 15 in the state private school championships, earning All-State accolades each year. Taryn was named cross-country team MVP in each of her four years of high school. Competitors learned to fear the diminutive blond, calling her Taryn Schrader as she devoured all league competition.
Taryn was also an honor roll student for all four years at Bishop Sullivan CHS. She was a member of the National and German Honor Societies and in her senior year she received the award as female Academic Athlete of the Year.
After graduating from Bishop Sullivan CHS with Honors, Schrader ran Division1 cross country, indoor, and outdoor track at Virginia Tech. Due to illness and several debilitating injuries, Taryn gave up running competitively for the teams at Tech after two years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Virginia Tech in 2013, and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2015 with a Master’s Degree in industrial-organizational psychology. Recently engaged to fellow Tech alumnus and Hokie golfer Marc MacDonald, Taryn currently resides in Richmond, Virginia, and is a Compensation Consultant at Arthur J. Gallagher. And she is still an avid runner, competing each November in the Mount Trashmore Turkey Trot 10k as well as other road races. Eventually she hopes to complete a marathon!
