Russell Ramos '85
Russell (Haj) Ramos attended Norfolk Catholic High School from 1981-1985. During his time at NCHS he ran track and competed in the following events: 100 yard/meter dash (84-85), 200 yard/meter dash (84-85), 400 yard/meter dash (84), long jump (82-83), triple jump (82-83), and the 4 x 100 yard/meter relay (84-85). Russell Ramos, Brian Pascua, Kevin Smith, and Robert Richard set the school record in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the 1985 Virginia Independent School Track Meet, under Coach Mary Pitchford. Ramos earned 2 varsity letters (1984, 1985) and was voted “Most Improved Player” (1985). He was the Varsity Football Manager (1984, 1985) and earned 2 varsity letters under Coach John O’Hara and Coach Keith Willis. He was the Varsity Men’s Basketball Manager (1984) and earned a varsity letter under Coach Dennis Price. He was the Women’s Volleyball Manager (1984) and earned a varsity letter.
After graduating from NCHS, Ramos went to Virginia Tech from 1985-1990. At Tech he was the Student Equipment Manager and earned 4 varsity letters and was a member of the Hokie Monogram Club. He served as Student Manager for then Linebackers Coach, Bud Foster (now Tech’s Head Defensive Coordinator/Coach), in 1987. He then served as Head Student Equipment Manager (1988-1990) for Frank Beamer. Ramos earned partial scholarship from 1986-1988 and later received Full Athletic Scholarship as the Virginia Tech Football Head Student Equipment Manager from 19881990 under Virginia Tech Equipment Manager, Lester Karlin.
Russell graduated from Virginia Tech in June, 1990 and currently lives in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife of 21 years, Robin H. Ramos and their two children: Ryan (son) and Sidney (daughter). Russell has been working in Cybersecurity/Information Security (INFOSEC) for over 21 years. He served as the Branch Chief/Director of Information Assurance at the White House/Executive Office of the President (2008-2016). He is currently the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Inspector General (OIG).
