Academic Support Program

Here to Support Excellence

The Staff of the Academic Skills Program works directly with students to develop and improve the use of learning strategies and organizational skills and to further improve the students’ abilities in reading, writing, and math.  Students are referred to the program through parent, teacher, or counselor concerns.

Students eligible for the program include those with documented learning differences to include mild learning disabilities and ADHD. A complete psycho-educational evaluation within the last three years will be required, and an ADHD diagnosis must be made by a professional who specializes in attentional issues.  In order for a student to qualify for accommodations for standardized testing such as the SAT and AP exams, the guidelines provided by the College Board must be followed.

Our Program Goals

The goal of the Academic Skills Program is to assist in developing and strengthening
 •   appropriate study skills and strategies for academic success.
  • academic decision-making and goal-setting.
  • writing, reading, and reasoning abilities.
  • effective test-taking, detailed note-taking and the sequential break down of assignments.
  • the students’ ability to seek help from teachers when needed.

In Famous Company

Many famous people are thought to have struggled with learning disabilities including Albert Einstein.  He said “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.”  The Academic Skills Program helps young minds to learn to think and thereby to achieve academic success.
