On Wednesday, January 30, we were honored to welcome Virginia Beach City Mayor Bobby Dyer to our school as a part of our National Catholic Schools Week celebration. Mayor Dyer toured the campus accompanied by our Principal Peggy Boon and some of our student ambassadors. He also spoke with our AP US History class and a few others.
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2019 is January 27 - February 2. Each day throughout the week, schools focus on a daily theme. Wednesday’s theme was “Celebrating our Nation.” On National Appreciation Day for Catholic schools, students, families, educators and other Catholic school supporters communicate the value of Catholic education to government leaders. They share information with leaders on the significant contributions Catholic schools make to the nation and their role in preparing students to be good citizens. They pray for the nation and recognize all those who serve it.

Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School is AdvancED accredited and the Diocese of Richmond is AdvancED accredited as a school system.
AdvancEDis the largest community of education professionals in the world. They are a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre-K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. While their expertise is grounded in more than a hundred years of work in school accreditation, AdvancED is far from a typical accrediting agency. Their goal is not to certify that schools are good enough. Rather, their commitment is to help schools improve.
Combining the knowledge and expertise of a research institute, the skills of a management consulting firm and the passion of a grassroots movement for educational change, AdvancED serves as a trusted partner to 34,000 schools and school systems—employing more than four million educators and enrolling more than 20 million students—across the United States and 70 other nations.
