What did you do after graduation?
After graduation, I attended Old Dominion University and I earned my degree in Business Administration. I earned my M.B.A. from William and Mary. I worked as an Analyst at Bank of America and later as an Investment Advisor at Merrill Lynch. I learned a lot from these experiences but felt that I identified more with entrepreneurship so I followed my passion to start up a socially conscious ecommerce business, Hamilton Perkins Collection
. My company is a Certified B Corporation turning recycled plastic bottles and recycled billboards into designer bags. For every bag we sell we reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, conserve water – and create sustainable jobs in Haiti.
What clubs/activities were you in during high school?
I played Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball. I also ran track.
What are your favorite memories from Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School?
The rigor of the coursework was intense but I did enjoy it. I had a lot of fun in Mrs. Ryan’s class as well as Mrs. Baker’s class. They really prepared me with useful technical skills that help me today. Overall I’d have to say it was a magical time for me. I still think we had some of the best talent in our basketball conference in those days. I enjoyed the travel and spending time with my teammates at tournaments. I also had a lot of fun running track. I learned a lot about myself by picking up a new sport. I made new friends and still keep in touch with many of them to this day. My volunteer time was rewarding as well. I grew and became a better person in so many ways. I gained the foundation needed to serve in leadership roles at non-profits and purpose driven organizations after graduation.
What does being a Crusader mean to you?
It means a lot to be a Crusader. My parents worked super hard for me to have the opportunity and I owe them big for what they sacrificed. I was very prepared to make it in the world with what I learned in those formative years. In addition to my graduation meaning a lot to me it meant a lot to my family, especially my Grandmother. That make makes me proud.
