The Band/Orchestra Ensemble
has been active as a full time performing group since 2003 and is made up of students in Grades 9-12 who want to develop their knowledge of a band/string instrument, their playing technique, and their musicianship.
As a music student you will learn how to improve your sight-reading of music. You will also learn about and perform major, minor scales, chords and basic chord progressions to learn how to improvise music and prepare for future college ensembles.
Our members support the Catholic High School Community at activities throughout the year, providing various styles of music and instrumentation. The musicians combine into multiple instrumentation groups including a Jazz Band, Woodwind Ensemble and String Ensemble that provide music for different settings
We provide many opportunities for students to peform and excel. Our main performance activities are home football games, Christmas and end of year concerts, the CHS Grand Auction, and the annual middle school instrumental workshop. Some of our students have earned positions in the Virginia District II Honor Bands and All Virginia Honor Bands. They may vie for the John Phillip Sousa Award, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award and the U. S. Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award.
Students are accepted via an audition/interview with the band director. Students may take Band/Orchestra Ensemble for successive years and receive a fine arts credit for each year.
