The Bishop Sullivan Chorus, (a for-credit course) is composed of 30-38 students. This Fine Arts class meets Monday - Friday at 7:30 a.m. In addition to the Winter and Spring concerts with the Bishop Sullivan Band/Orchestra Ensemble, the Chorus leads music at the Baccalaureate Service in June. They are also one of the leaders of the school’s weekly celebration of the Mass.
In addition to rehearsing for concerts and Mass, students participate in music selection, improvising, arranging, sight-singing practice, and preparation of solos. Music performed comes from a wide variety of sources both sacred and secular; Western and Non-Western; accompanied and acapella from periods ranging from early classical through the present day.
Each November, each member of the chorus auditions for the District II Chorus. They are competing with approximately 1500 students from Norfolk, Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore. Each year approximately one quarter of our chorus members are selected for this honor. 2017 was the first year we had a student selected as a delegate for the All-Virginia Chorus.
